There are 120 places available each year and most of the students will be selected from the Health Science First Year.
Applicants from Health Science First Year are required to sit and pass the UMAT test and attend for an interview as well as meeting the academic requirements for the prescribed papers.
You can apply under this category if you have completed two or more years of university study and have passed all the papers prescribed for the Health Science First Year course at the University of Otago; have achieved grades acceptable to the Admissions Committee and have also achieved the required threshold for UMAT as well as attending for an interview
If you have completed the requirements for your first university degree from a university in New Zealand, then an entry to the second year classes in physiotherapy may be lodged by October 1 the preceding year. You will be required to meet the “prerequisites for entry” (see below), including the requirements set for UMAT, the interview and academic performance.
An application may be made in this category if you do not meet the requirements for entry under any of the above categories. These may be from:

If your application is successful, you will be eligible for admission to second year classes on the condition that you complete satisfactorily or have gained an exemption from the papers that make up the Health Science First Year.
