Credentialing for Overseas Registration for Bachelor of Physiotherapy Graduates
Graduates wishing to practise physiotherapy overseas are required to gain registration with that country’s regulation authority (or professional association where there is no regulation authority). The process for registration can be found on each regulation authority/credentialing agency’s website, the most common being:
- Health Professions Council (HPC) in the UK
- Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators
- Foreign Credentialing Commission on Physical Therapy (FCCPT)
- Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP)
Note: In the case of graduates wishing to register to practise in Australia, a different process applies and you should check details on the Australian Registration Board’s website
Most regulation authorities/credentialing agencies require information from both graduates and the University they graduated from; this information varies between agencies.
On receipt of a written/faxed/emailed request and confirmation that the candidate will pay the required fee, the School of Physiotherapy will complete the appropriate credentialing agency form, provide the graduate with a certified course description, their clinical placement summary and, when necessary, a course curriculum.
Completed documentation will normally be posted to the graduate, however, if an agency requests documentation be posted directly to them, a copy will also be posted to the individual.
The fee for obtaining the credentialing information from the School of Physiotherapy is NZ$250 including GST. This payment can be made on receipt of an invoice which will be posted to the graduate with the documentation. There will be an additional charge if documentation is to be couriered.
The timeframe for processing credentialing information requests is up to 6 weeks once confirmation has been received in writing (email, fax or post) from the graduate advising they are willing to pay the NZ$250 fee.
Note: If a credentialing agency/regulation
authority requests an academic transcript, students should contact
the University of Otago Information Centre. There is a fee of
approximately NZ$20 for the first copy and NZ$10 for additional
copies. For more information and/or to obtain the request form

Transcripts/Credentialing for Overseas Registration for Diploma of Physiotherapy Graduates
Graduates of the Diploma of Physiotherapy requiring an academic transcript can request this from the School of Physiotherapy. The University of Otago Information Centre does not hold this information as the School of Physiotherapy was, at that stage, part of the Otago Polytechnic.
The fee for obtaining a DipPhty academic transcript is NZ$60 including GST. This payment can be made on receipt of a tax invoice which will be posted to the graduate with the documentation.
When wishing to practise physiotherapy overseas DipPhty graduates are required to gain registration with that country’s regulation authority (professional association where there is no regulation authority).
